Who is Rabbi Schmuley and why does he claim to be Michael Jackson's "best friend"?

I haven't even heard of this guy before today. I don't even know how him and Michael would even come in contact to each other in the first place, let alone be "best friends" within a 9 month period. Michael wasn't even Jewish. He was even hinting toward Michael being a pedophile during the interview with Meridith Vieira and saying Michael was "stupid" for taking his life. To me, it seems like just another person trying to cash in on his death.
