Would Buddhism be more widespread if they used Christian/Muslim-style violence?

Wars where waged under buddhist believers, somehow though the oriental religions seem to have kept alot stricter to their philosophy of compion. Maybe its because none of them directly approach God as a core of the faith but see it as part of the picture
