Question about applying for a Mortgage Loan.

My husband and I are interesting in buying a home. We are first time home buyer's and really know nothing about it. We already know we need a co-signer, and my credit score is alot higher and closer to being able to get a loan on my own than his is, but I'm a "homemaker" and have no income except my husband's. Will that affect my ability to get a loan or will it not matter? Please help me out, and thank you in advance for answering.
